Fibromialgia

Research connecting vitamin D deficiency and fibromyalgia has been explored in various studies. Here are some critical studies that have investigated this relationship:

1. “Vitamin D deficiency in patients with fibromyalgia”  (Published in Clinical Rheumatology, 2009):
– This study examined the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in fibromyalgia patients compared to healthy controls.
– Findings showed a higher prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in fibromyalgia patients, suggesting a potential association between low vitamin D levels and fibromyalgia.

2. “Vitamin D levels in women with fibromyalgia and relationship to pain”  (Published in the Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine, 2009):
– This study investigated the relationship between vitamin D levels and pain severity in women with fibromyalgia.
– Results indicated a significant inverse correlation between vitamin D levels and pain severity, suggesting that lower vitamin D levels may be associated with increased pain in fibromyalgia patients.

3. “The relationship between serum vitamin D levels and fibromyalgia syndrome in women”  (Published in Clinical Rheumatology, 2011):
– This study aimed to determine the association between serum vitamin D levels and fibromyalgia syndrome in women.
– Results showed a higher prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in fibromyalgia patients compared to healthy controls, suggesting a potential role of vitamin D in the pathogenesis of fibromyalgia.

4. “Vitamin D supplementation in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial”  (Published in the Journal of Pain, 2014):
– This randomized controlled trial investigated the effects of vitamin D supplementation on fibromyalgia symptoms.
– Results showed that vitamin D supplementation significantly improved pain, fatigue, and quality of life in fibromyalgia patients with vitamin D deficiency compared to placebo, suggesting a potential therapeutic benefit of vitamin D supplementation in fibromyalgia management.

5. “Vitamin D status in patients with fibromyalgia: A systematic review and meta-analysis”  (Published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2016):
– This systematic review and meta-analysis synthesized evidence on the relationship between vitamin D status and fibromyalgia.
– Findings indicated a higher prevalence of vitamin D deficiency in fibromyalgia patients compared to controls, supporting the hypothesis of an association between low vitamin D levels and fibromyalgia.

These studies collectively provide evidence suggesting a potential link between vitamin D deficiency and fibromyalgia. However, further research is needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and determine the clinical implications of vitamin D supplementation in fibromyalgia management.
